Singing Recommendations

If you’ve ever found yourself driving along and crooning at the top of your lungs with that song on the radio or you have been known to use your scrubbing brush or shampoo bottle as a makeshift microphone while you are showering, boy do I have some singing recommendations for you!

Certainly you have to start by enjoying the physical act of singing. Singing is all about breath control. Most voice teachers would agree that the more you are in touch with your breath the more success you will have with diction, sustaining a note, and perhaps you may even unlock the natural vibrato to your voice that you didn’t even know you had. It may sound simple, but a lot of aspiring singers forget to breathe and that stops the potential and power of their vocal qualities cold.

A good singer is a relaxed singer. We may all think we sound better in the shower or car and would never dare sing in public. But the reason we sound so good to ourselves is because we are at ease and having a pleasant time vocalizing. Don’t worry about hitting a sour note, go for it! Belt it out! But don’t forget to be relaxed and use your diaphragm as to not strain your throat.

Further singing recommendations are to keep yourself properly lubricated. Drink plenty of water. Keep a water bottle handy at all possible times. If you are feeling a little hoarse, tea with lemon is a common and soothing solution, but skip the honey. Also, some would tell you to eat a small bag of a salted snack, as salt helps you to retain the water.

There are a number of facial exercises that you can utilize to keep your jaw and lips limber as it is important to know just as you need to be in touch with your breath, you have to have complete control over your mouth and facial muscles to help form the necessary notes and pitches.

These singing recommendations are just the tip of the iceberg in order to set you on your way whether you be the next pop sensation or you simply just want to improve on what you already love to do.
